DESCRIPTION:
APW - Illinois, Bunn Special with rare bright spotted damascene, 23J, 16S, gold-filled OF original case with very attractive engine turning and engraving detail to rear, white enamel DS Gothic numeral dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel, bright spotted pattern nickel damascene, "D'bl Roller" marking below balance, s#2572654. A superb example of this rare earliest variant of 23 jewel 16 size Bunn Special; the total production of this variant with abbreviated "D'bl" marking is believed to be only 200 made per Mike Chamelin's excellent Bunn Special book.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, slightly challenging to wind as winding slips occasionally loosing engagement with winding mechanism, overhaul recommended to correct this issue, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates, some mild micro-fine scratches to balance cock, very few minimal micro-fine scratches elsewhere, small spot of oxide to concave portion of larger winding wheel and in small bits to regulator spring; dial with some scattered faint hls, pinpoint surface nick to outer chapter near 3, small ripple in surface glaze below 1 which is an as-made finish imperfection; fine hands, minute with abrasion and finish loss to its spade and tip; case shows hardly any wear, few tiny nicks along band, no dents, superb engine turning and engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal.
